Great Sand Dunes
National Park & Preserve
Our second stopover during our vacation was here at the Great
Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve. This is an amazing feature in
Colorado located on the edge of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. They rise
over 750 feet and are the tallest dunes in North America. The dunes were
formed from sand and silt from the Rio Grande River as well as continued erosion
of the mountains.
