Leadville, Colorado

Back to Photo Menu
Leadville, Colorado is the highest incorporated city in the
United States at an elevation of 10,430 feet. While we were there we went
horse back riding and rode The Leadville, Colorado & Southern Railroad.

| Here are two photos of my travel trailer
and the incredible campsite. It was so quite and peaceful here.
The mountains surrounded us and were capped with snow making for a
beautiful sight. |

| Our next morning, after arriving in
Leadville, we went on a breakfast horse back ride. Everyone
enjoyed an authentic "cowboy" breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausage, eggs,
pancakes, and real "cowboy coffee". |

The Leadville, Colorado & Southern
Railroad
The train ride was also fun. This was the first time my kids and I
have ever ridden a train in the mountains. The views were awesome
to say the least. We stopped along the way to get a close-up view
of the old water tower that supplied water to the original steam engine
that traveled on the rail. The first photo in this set shows the
original steam engine, which stopped running in 1960's. An
incredible fact about this rail line is that it is privately owned.
The owners purchased 11 miles of existing rail road track, 11 train
passenger cars, 3 cabooses, and an engine all for $10.00! That's
right TEN dollars in the 1960's! |
